Android Email Set-Up

Open the "mail" application which should be in your list of all programs. Once it's open click the settings option. Usually there is a button on the bottom of the android screen that does this. Then click "new account" and you will see this screen. Choose "Other."

Click on "protocol" and choose the type of account you are setting up. This will usually be "imap."

Add the email address and password and click "manual setup"

Add your incoming mail settings. This will be your full email address, your username which is also your full email address, and your password. Your imap or pop server would be mail.domain.tld, replacing domain.tld with the customers actual domain. Security would be none and port should stay at the default.

Your outgoing settings will be essentially the same as your incoming settings. Make sure you click "login required" on the top "security type" can stay as "none" and port should be changed to 1025.

The account name field will be what the account is called on your phone. The your name field is what people will see on your messages when you send them. Click "finish setup" and your done.

Keep in mind that andoid has more mail programs than we care to count. If the customer is looking for a good example or is having difficulties with the default mail program we've noticed K9 mail seems to have fewer problems. These steps can be followed, generally, to set up all of them

If you get stuck remember the options button, not shown on most screenshots, will get you started.

and if all else fails get the customer to read what's on the screen and you can give them the settings

Select "Setup" from your list of all programs. You may have to scroll to the far right to find this list.

When prompted for what kind of email account select "Internet Mail Account."

Enter your email address and password.

There is an option here to "show password" if you are uncertain of your texting abilities.

This should bring you to a confirmation screen with the option to setup Signature and Settings.

Choose "Change Settings" from this screen.

Under "Advanced Options" you can enter your Email Server, which is mail.domain.tld, your email server type which should be IMAP and your port which should be 143 by default. Disable "use SSL" if it is not already.

Hit "Save".

IPAD Email Set-Up

On the iPad go to the Home screen and open Settings.

Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Open Add Account then select Other.

Here we enter your name, your email address where it says "Address" and the password.

For Description you can put anything. It will be what the android calls the account. Hit Next.

Here we want to make sure "Imap" is selected at the top. Also confirm the name and address are listed properly

Under Incoming Mail Server you want your host, mail.domain.tld and your email address where it says User Name and of course your password.

Under Outgoing Mail Server you want the same thing.

When you click next you will get the "unable to connect using SSL" error, hit "yes" to connect without SSL.

Here we make sure Mail is set to "On". Notes is a third part Ipad tool, mac support can probably tell the customer more about that.

Select your email account now that it is created and tap "account" scroll to the bottom and tab "advanced"

On here Use SSL should be off, Authentication should be "password" and server port should be 143 for incoming.

Now tap Outgoing Mail Server.

Tap mail.domain.tld which should be showing now as your primary outgoing server.

Host, User and Pass should be the same as we mentioned above. SSL should be OFF and authentication should be "Password". Server port is 1025.

Select "IMAP". Enter your name in the "Name" field, your full email address ([email protected]) in the "Email" field, the password and a description for the account in the "Description" field. Click on "Next" button in the top right hand side of the screen.

Scroll down and input the settings for your Incoming Mail Server. Enter "mail.yourdomain.com" in the "Host Name" field. Enter your full email address in the "User Name" field and your password in the "Password" field. Scroll down and input the settings for the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). Enter "mail.yourdomain.com" in the "Host Name" field and replacing "yourdomain.com" with your own domain name. Enter your full email address in the "User Name" field and your password in the "Password" field. Press the "Next" button in the top right hand side of the screen. It will be "Verifying" it can take up to 5 or 10 minutes.

A message will appear saying: "Cannot Connect Using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?" Click on "No"

Press the "Save" button in the top right hand side of the screen.

A message will appear saying: "Cannot Verify Server Identity..." Click on "Continue", Then it will "verify" for a couple of seconds then click on "Save" button again on the top right hand side of the screen.

Press to choose the account that was just created.

Scroll down and press "SMTP mail.yourdomain.com"

Make sure "Use SSL" is turned "OFF", the Autentication is "Password" and the Server Port is "1025" in "Outgoing Mail Server Settings" then press the "Done" button in the top right hand side of the screen. Press on "Account" on the top left hand side of the screen.

Press button located below the screen, it will bring you back to your SpringBoard, press "Mail" you should now be able to send and receive mail.

Put a checkmark in 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' and make sure that the dot is in 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server'.

Click the '', '' and then '' buttons and now you should be able to send and receive email.

CANNOT SEND EMAIL?

If you can receive email however you cannot send email and the settings are exactly as shown above, change your outgoing mail (SMTP) port from the default of 25 to 1025.

To do this:

Click on 'Tools' > 'Account Settings...'> Select the account and click the 'Change' button> 'More Settings...' button in the bottom right > 'Advanced' tab.

Change the 'Server Port Numbers' - 'Outgoing server (SMTP)' from 25 to 1025.

Background Reasoning:

In order to combat spam, some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) block traffic to external servers on port 25 so that customers using that ISP can only use the ISP's mail server. If that customer is going to spam, the idea is that they must use the ISP's mail server to spam and therefore be caught very quickly, and handled accordingly. Realizing that many ISP's mail servers have a more restrictive options (ie. not being able to send to more than 100 people at a time) as they are usually residential mail servers, we have opened an alternative port to allow you to send mail using our mail servers, one that the ISPs do not block. That port is SMTP port 1025.

Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
Click on the 'Tools' menu and then click 'Account Settings...'.

This is the initial screen and is actually being used to scan various common server configurations to skip manually setting up your account.

We aren't planning to skip manual set up but still enter the your name, your email address and password here.

The "your name" part will be what is displayed on outgoing messages as the sender

Once you've entered everything hit Continue

It will begin to scan common servers at this point. You can cancel this process by clicking "Manual Config"

So do that now.

This is the screen we really want to see.

On here we would enter our:

'Incoming Server':
Replace with: mail.your_website_address.com

And our:'Outgoing Server':
Replace with: mail.your_website_address.com

Set the incoming port to 143 for IMAP or 110 for POP for incoming and the outgoing port to 1025. Set the SSL's to "None" and the authentication to "normal password" and, of course, set your username to your email address.

The finished product should look like this. Hit "Create Account" at this point.

You will see this message informing you that you have no SSL options enabled. This error just reminds you that if you transmit a lot of secure data like credit cards and personal information you will want to look into getting SSL on your email. For the moment make sure "I understand the risks" is checked off and then hit "Create Account" and you're done.

Open Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0.

At the top of the page click on the 'Tools' menu and then select 'Accounts...'.

Your Name

This is where you can choose what name will be displayed in the FROM area when you send an email. A good idea is to use your real name or business name (if this is a generic mailbox).

E-mail Server Names

Make sure you have 'POP3' selected for the incoming mail server type.
Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server':
mail.domain.tld (eg. mail.test.com)
'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server':
mail.domain.tld (eg. mail.test.com)
Check box for 'My outgoing server requires authentication'

Click 'Next.'

Open Macintosh Mail.

If this is the first time you have started Mail, you will be promoted to enter in your email settings. If you have already been inside Mail, click on the 'Mail' menu > 'Preferences...' > 'Accounts' category > in the bottom left corner, click the '+' sign.

'Full Name': Replace with: Your Name

'Email Address': Replace with: your_email@your_website_address.com

'Incoming Mail Server': Replace with: mail.your_website_address.com

'Account Type': POP

'User Name': Replace with: your_email.your_website_address.com

'Password': The one you specified in your EasyMail Setup (8 characters maximum)

'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)': Replace with: mail.your_website_address.com

Click 'OK'

Mac Mail Set-Up

This will bring up the Import Mailboxes dialog box asking you if you wish to import mail from another email client. Click 'No' and it will open up the application fully and show you your 'Inbox', automatically doing a Send/Receive for email.

You should be able to send and receive email.
